Emmons Glacier

Emmons Glacier

Emmons Glacier on the northeast face of Mount Rainier is reportedly the largest glacier in the U.S. Its leading edge, shown here, looks more like a huge pile of dirt than a glacier, but it is definitely a glacier. You can see, in about the center of the photo, where the White River emerges from a bluish cavern in it. The river's other source is Inter Glacier.
