Pinnacle Base with Stick

The presence of this stick is a mystery. It appears to be coming right out of the rock. Going around the back of the thing doesn't help. There's no big branch there that could account for the stick. I could find nothing visible from any angle that could account for it. (I didn't actually jump in the water to check things out. I wasn't that curious.)
