Imagine yourself a light in a vast infinity of empty space.
Because the space is empty, there's nothing for the light to reflect off of. In fact, there's no way to know that the light (you) exists at all. But put some things out there to reflect the light: trees, rocks, shopping malls, dust.
Now there can be seeing. And because there's something to be seen, it can be imagined there's someone seeing it. There can be 'me'.
